Ghost Printing – What is it?

Featured

Ghost printing is when you print out images or text that repeats itself onto the printing paper more than once. This happens when your drum or fuser unit becomes a faulty. This can also happen in new printers but are most common in laser printers or older printers.

The reason Ghost Printing occurs is due to the particles in the drum or fuser unit not being hot enough to produce a better quality image or text. This can be quite frustrating when you are printing out important documents and need the quality to be greater. Static Electricity interrupts the electric charges from the lasers of your printer, which results in the duplication of text or image on the same page.

Ghost Printing can happen from anything but this will not prevent your print quality from getting worse over time. To check to see if your printer is Ghost Printing, check your printers’ manual book. You can always double check the paper you are using.

Drum Unit

Nevertheless, the drum unit is the main influence to your printer ghosting. To fix this, you need to locate your drum unit on your printer. If you cannot find it, check your printers’ manufacturers’ handbook. Sometimes the main issue to your printer Ghost Printing is as simple as checking the end of life of your drum unit. If you do suspect your drum unit ending than I suggest you replace it. Sometimes the drum unit is built into the toner cartridge so it is harder to fix alone. If this is the case, than it is best to seek professional help.

To prevent the issue from arising consistently, it is probably best to check if the drum unit is the right temperature. This is essential when you are trying to repair the fuser unit yourself. You can change the temperature of your drum unit, as it will be available in the manufacturers’ code. It is important to check to see if your printer is placed anywhere with high humidity, as this can no doubt not only damage your prints but your print quality also.

Your printer may make a screeching sound and if you do hear this, there is most likely something wrong with your fuser and not your printer. The fuser unit aids the ink to stick onto the paper.
