Daylight Saving Time 2023!

Daylight Saving Time (DST), also known as British Summer Time, is the practice of advancing the clocks forward by one hour during the summer months in the United Kingdom. The primary purpose of this time change is to make better use of the longer daylight hours during the summer by shifting an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening.

When do we switch to Daylight Saving Time?

In the UK, DST begins on the last Sunday in March. Clocks are moved forward by one hour. 1:00 am GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), jumps to 2:00 am BST (British Summer Time). This marks the start of British Summer Time. Daylight saving time then ends on the last Sunday in October. Clocks are moved back by one hour at 2:00 am BST, making it 1:00 am GMT.

DST History

Daylight Saving Time was first introduced in the UK during WWI to save fuel and increase productivity during daylight hours. Since then, it continues as a means of making the most of the long summer evenings, and as a way to align the UK’s time with that of other European countries.

It’s important to note, not all countries observe DST. Those that do may do so on different dates or not at all.
