Apple to 3D Print Watches!

Apple has started testing the use of 3D printers in the manufacturing process of the newest, soon-to-be released Apple Watch 9. This new approach to the manufacturing process will help the American Company a lot. How?

Apple’s new manufacturing process will use less material than before and will be more eco-friendly. Though the firm is only testing out the new production method, it is likely that 3D printing will be incorporated into the manufacturing process of the product. For now, Apple Watch chassis are made by cutting slabs of metal into the correct shape, whereas Apple’s new approach to this would mean using 3D printing to reduce the time to create these parts and the amount of materials used. So, 3D printing would save the company precious time and resource, and therefore money. Considering the amount of Apple Watches sold each year (about 40 million!), the money saved would largely benefit Apple.

The aluminium used in the processes has become the usual material Apple uses – in 2021, the firm reported that almost 60% of all aluminium used in their products is recycled, with many of them using 100% recycled aluminium.
