China to test 3D Printing on the moon with construction plans

China plans to inhabit people on the moon! By 2030, the country plans to send 3 missions to the distant rock we all know. Chang’e 6, 7 and 8 will look for reusable resources on the moon to build structures for humans to stay in and for long-term habitation. The first humans living on the moon will be revolutionary and a massive step in inhabiting another surface which isn’t earth. Surely, it would be the biggest event to happen, maybe ever! Millions, or even billions of people would watch humans advance into a new living environment. Time will tell if the moon has the resources and materials for us to construct buildings with appropriate and suitable living conditions.

Earth and the Moon

In 2020, China sent Chang’e 5 (named after the mythical Chinese goddess of the moon) on a mission to bring the first soil samples from the moon back to our planet. Beijing has made huge leaps in advancement in space travel, with their first moon landing in 2013 and plans to send an astronaut to the moon in 2030.

China also plans to start constructing buildings on the moon using its soil in five years. The Chinese have revealed that a robot, specifically designed to make “lunar soil bricks” will be launched together with the Chang’e 8 mission in 2028.

Earth from the Moon

What about other countries? Canada’s space agency has revealed a team of 4 astronauts for the Artemis 2 mission planned for next year, which would be a first human fly-by of the moon in decades.

Who knows, maybe in our lifetime we’ll witness the first human birth on the moon, maybe even mars, considering the progress organisations like SpaceX or NASA are making. Many questions are raised when thinking of these distant, and yet fairly close events, like “will mars or the moon have a flag?” or “will there be passports specifying which planet you were born on?”.

The Moon Close Up

Although the idea of living on the moon or mars is very exciting and interesting, it could also result in quite a few problems, like how visits between planets (if the public could easily travel in space) would be affected by the different gravity intensities? For example, could a person born on the moon, where gravity isn’t as strong as it is on earth, freely visit earth without any health concerns? The body would grow and advance differently on the moon/mars than on earth (and that goes for any planet or surface other than earth that we would inhabit).

As always, there are many positive sides to it, and yet negative sides too. I guess all we can do is wait for scientists, astronauts and many other people to complete their goals and continue with space missions and hope for the best. We’ll figure out something, right?

The Moon

Either way, the progress we’ve made in space travel since the first moon landing, from Sputnik, Yuri Gagarin and Apollo 11 (among many other missions) to 3D Printing and Moon inhabitation in just a little over half a century! Imagine the possibilities that still lie ahead of us, and how far we’ll be in another 50 years, and another, and another…

Will it ever be possible for us to inhabit the Moon?

Going back to the moon and mars flags, a few people have already thought of ideas for flags for both and submitted it. Why not try out your own flag? Design one and print it out, hang it up on your wall. Why not officially submit it? Who knows, maybe your flag will one day be the official flag of a planet or a moon? What better way to bring out the details and colours of your flag than with our amazingly high quality inks and toners? The best you can possibly buy, for cheap prices and discounts on our site!
