World Environment Day 2023!

5th June marks the annual celebration of World Environment Day around the globe. The day encourages environmental awareness and protection. This year marks the 50th Anniversary since the first WED! World Environment Day is also referred to as Eco Day, Environment Day, or, as we’ve already used it, WED.

The WED focuses on improving environmental problems.

A large amount of WED’s were hosted in Bangladesh,  most notably the city of Sylhet. Every year, a theme is chosen. The theme is different each year, focusing on the different aspects of environment – from the ozone layer to the future generations to development in a greener future. This year, Cote d’Ivoire is the host of WED, which focuses on the Sollutions to Plastic Pollution. The slogan for this years Environment Day is “Invest In Our Planet”. Eco Day features many events, festivals and activities during the celebrations and promotes environmental causes and awareness as much as possible around the world.

The Environment has benefitted from WED

Some countries around the world that have hosted World Environment Day are Bangladesh (which has hosted WED the most times out of any other country), Brazil, Mexico, Sweden (which hosted the first WED in Stockholm), Switzerland, Thailand, Australia, Kenya and many, many more!

Today is the 50th Anniversary since the first WED!

Many accomplishments have been achieved thanks to this day being held for the last 5 decades. Some of which are:

  • Michael Jackson’s Earth Song was declared “World Environment Day Song” in 2009. The song and its music video raised awareness for the environment and showed the many problems humanity faces – from environment, hunting and deforestation to war and death. The song was a massive success. The hit song impacted people worldwide and spread the word about the negative effects of deforestation, particularly in places, where it’s particularly common, such as the Amazon Rainforest, which has already had 20% of it gone, severely threatening habitats and species as well as the planet. The Amazon rainforest loses 200,000 acres of rainforest every day, 150 acres every minute of every day and 78,000,000 acres burned every year.
  • 2013’s theme for WED was “Think. Eat. Save”, which contributed to an enormous amount of food saving, compared to pre-2013 WED days. The reduction in food waste additionally contributed to the reduction of the overall carbon footprint. Mongolia was the host country.

There are many more achievements, which World Environment Day can pride itself with. At PremiumCompatibles, we also would like to express our support for the environment and mention how we support it.

World Environment Day (or WED) focuses on promoting environmental awareness and helping the environment

Our small contribution towards the environment has already been mentioned on our blog previously, but we’ll say it again.

First of all, we recycle cartridges. Bring your cartridge to us and we’ll give it a new life! Secondly, we sell compatible cartridges, which save you money and have equal page yields to originals, which don’t always give you the full page yields. Quality usually matches original cartridge quality, whereas price… there is a significant, clearly noticeable drop with our reliable cartridges when compared to original cartridges! We refill our inks, sell them for cheaper and maintain – sometimes even exceed – the reliability of originals! Why not buy from PremiumCompatibles? After all, it’s worth it! We don’t only sell inks and toners. Check out our label tapes and photo paper! You won’t be disappointed.
